WHAT IS A DEBIT CARD?

A Debit card looks like a credit card, with a VISA logo printed on it, but does not operate like a credit card.  Instead Debit cards operate like cash or your own personal check.

Debit means "subtract."  When you use your Debit card, you are subtracting money from your Sidney Federal Credit Union checking account.

USING YOUR DEBIT CARD WHEN SHOPPING

Debit cards only allow you to spend what is in your checking account and merchants more readily accept debit cards than checks, especially in other states or countries wherever the VISA DEBIT logo is accepted.  Using your SFCU Debit card instead of writing a check saves time.  No ID required.  It is an alternative to carrying cash or a checkbook.  Your Sidney Federal Credit Union Debit card is convenient when you travel, go to grocery stores, retail stores, gas stations and restaurants.  Using your debit card is a quick transaction between a merchant and your personal checking account.

YOUR PIN NUMBER

After applying for your Sidney Federal Credit Union Debit card, you will receive your card and an electronic funds transfer agreement and disclosure in the mail.  In a separate mailing you will receive a Personal Identification Number (PIN).  Memorize your PIN number and do not keep it with your card.

KEEPING TRACK OF YOUR TRANSACTIONS

You can easily keep track of the transactions you make with your Debit card, by writing each transaction in your check register.  (Just as you would if you were writing a check.)  Each month, all your transactions will appear on your monthly share draft checking statement.  This will make it easy for you to reconcile your checkbook.

GETTING CASH WITH YOUR DEBIT CARD

Not only can you use your Debit card for shopping; you can also get cash at an ATM. You can access your money with the SFCU Debit card at thousands of ATM's worldwide that display the following symbols:

VISA, NYCE, CIRRUS AND THE EXCHANGE
